Weather forecasters are predicting the formation of a La Nina over the next few months. This natural weather cycle is marked by cooler than average ocean water in the Pacific Ocean. Typically this means cooler temperatures in the upper Midwest. The cooler temperatures with warm water in Lake Michigan is a great set-up for lake effect snowfall.
No long term weather outlook is a guarantee, but things are looking promising for another great season of skiing and riding at Nub’s Nob.
Get your gear ready for winter! The Nub’s Nob Tune Center is offering the World Cup Tune for just $35 from now until opening day. The tune-up includes edge sharpen, stone grind, wax and a binding check (remember to bring a boot). Drop your skis or board off at the Tune Center or Front Desk between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Open House! Despite a wet forecast the rain held off for most of the day and it was great to see so many old friends and new faces. If you were not able to make it to the Open House the front office will be open on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to process season passes. It’s time to start thinking snow!!!
The 18th Annual Nub’s Nob Open House is Saturday, October 7. This is a great day to enjoy a chairlift ride, find a great deal on used ski and snowboard equipment, drop off your gear to get tuned up at a discount, enjoy a free lunch and purchase your season pass at a 10% discount. New this year is the “Snowmaker’s Challenge” sponsored by The Outfitter of Harbor Springs. This is a grueling uphill foot race that goes straight up Smokey! The 2016-17 ski season is in the rear view mirror at Nub’s Nob, but our office is still open. We are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays. Season passes go on sale following Labor Day and the Nub’s Nob Open House is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th 2017.
The sun has set on the 2016-17 ski season at Nub’s Nob. From our Crew to yours thank you for helping us make this a great season. We enjoyed 118 days of skiing this season and over 130 inches of natural snowfall. The year was marked by many comfortable ski days and a few major powder days of near record proportion. The Nub’s Crew is already making plans for next ski season and we can’t wait to see you back on the slopes. Stay tuned for information regarding summer improvements to the ski area and remember 2017-18 season passes will go on sale following Labor Day.

Sunday, April 2nd is the last day of the season at Nub’s Nob! The forecast is calling for sunny skies and it should be great for spring skiing. All of us at Nub’s are thankful to have you as our guests this season and we are already making plans for next year. We hope to see you out on the slopes for the last day, make it a good one!
Nub’s Nob is still open and full covered with snow on all of our snowmaking runs. We will remain open thru April 2nd with 47 runs including Pintail Peak. The lifts will be turning from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Due to sunny skies and great spring skiing we will open Pintail Peak around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29th. Pintail will remain open until 3:45 p.m. We plan to re-open Pintail Peak on Friday for our final weekend of skiing. ENJOY!!!

The Outfitter of Harbor Springs is hosting the annual Telebration on Sunday, March 19th! This is a day of free telemark ski demos, a telemark only Nastar race from 2 to 2:30pm and tons of free-heel fun! Join the telemark herd at the Birch Run warming hut for some grilling & chilling. Come on out to Nub’s and drop a knee at the Telebration!
The “Midwest’s Best Snow” is at Nub’s Nob. Despite a few major thaws this winter we are still fully covered in snow with 100% of our snowmaking runs open without bare spots. Conditions are excellent as we head into the weekend and with Mardi Gras on Saturday.
Our annual Spring Fling is this Saturday, March 18th! Join the Crew at Nub’s for a costume contest, silly races, Dorie Sarns Challenge, The Petoskey Steel Drum Band and the famous Soaker Cup. Sunday was the first annual “Bartlett Cup” at Nub’s Nob. This race was formerly known as the “Super G on Sno Pro” and is the final race in the Volkl/Marker/Dalbello Speed Series. The Bartlett Cup is named in honor of our General Manager and President Jim “JB” Bartlett for his years of commitment to Nub’s and the ski racing community here. It is fitting to name this race in his honor on the 30th anniversary of Sno Pro. Sno Pro was built in 1987, during JB’s first season as GM at Nub’s. The run is named after former General Manager, Jim Dilworth, who passed away in 1987. The Bartlett Cup will live on the mantle in the Nub’s Pub and fastest female and male skier on the day will have their names engraved on the cup. Martha Bowman and Ben Tolzdorf are the winners of the first ever Bartlett Cup. For full race results click here.
It’s a clear, cold and beautiful Sunday morning at Nub’s Nob. The last race of our Speed Series is today with a Super G down Sno Pro! Racing begins at 9:30 a.m. and is followed by an awards brunch in the Nub’s Pub. This race is open to all expert skiers ages 9 and up.
The Head Banked Slalom is Saturday at 11 a.m. This totally unique race consists of 9 huge banked turns and two rollers right down Birch Run. Sign-up for the race at the front desk or at the top of the race course until 1 p.m. Head skis is sponsoring the event with age group medals and many raffle items including a grand prize drawing for a pair of HEAD skis! This past weekend at Nub’s Nob was awesome! The conditions were some of the best of the season on the slopes and it was sunny to top it off! The Nub’s Nob Open and Dynastar/Lange Challenge were both a huge hit for ski racers of all ages. Results from both of these races are posted on our “signature events” page. The forecast for Saturday, March 4th is calling for sunny skies and temperatures around 32 degrees. Nub’s received over a foot of snow in the last week and conditions are excellent on the slopes and cross country trails. These are the ski days we look forward to all year.
Saturday also marks the 54th annual Nub’s Nob open with FIS style slalom racing open to the general public on Smokey and Birch Run. For more information on the race click here.
Nearly a foot of snow landed at Nub’s Nob on March 1st! In the wake of this massive snow dump we are left with exceptional skiing & riding. Conditions are excellent on the slopes and trails, so grab your gear and take advantage of this opportunity for epic early March skiing.
This morning (Wednesday, March 1st) the snow is falling fast! The forecast is calling for 6 to 10 inches of fresh snow by tonight! All of this new snow in combination with our world class grooming Crew will make for excellent conditions as we head into the weekend. The coming weekend is full of special events with Speed Series on Friday night, the 54th annual Nub’s Nob Open on Saturday and the Dynastar/Lange Challenge is on Sunday with a GS on Valley.

The Outfitter of Harbor Springs will not be hosting the XC Ski Series this Wednesday March 1st. The XC Ski Series will continue next week Wednesday at 6:15 in the Brown Bagger.
The best Division I high school ski racers in the state converge at Nub’s on Monday for the State Ski Meet. All four courses on Valley, Smokey, Scarface and Chute finish in front of the day lodge making the viewing of this event very convenient. Come on out and cheer on your favorite teams. Racing begins at 9 a.m. with awards scheduled approximately 4 p.m. Our thanks go out to all the volunteers who help make this meet happen. These racing slopes will be open to MHSAA participants only during the meet and re-open for everyone by night skiing Monday night.
We are moving the Dynastar/Lange GS race from Sunday, March 26th to Sunday, March 5. The snow is still very soft following last weeks prolonged thaw which will make for good skiing, but not good conditions for a GS race. We are hoping for firmer snow on March 5th. All other details stay the same including race start at 1pm and a chance to win a free pair of Dynastar skis! See you next Sunday for the Daystar/Lange race!
